How Simply Blocking Blue Light can have HUGE IMPACT on your Health
Why is it important to clean up our light diet? Our previous guest Amanda Conta Steencken (Ep 16) said it beautifully here” “Because, just like junk food, junk light (i.e. screens, LED bulbs, and all Artificial Light at Night (ALAN)) disrupts leptin, insulin, cortisol and melatonin signaling in our bodies. This is referred to as circadian rhythm disruption (CRD) and it is at the foundation of all chronic diseases.” Side note….correcting CRD this is why I am an ambassador for the global CRD challenge starting 20 October. I hope you are signed up at CRDChallenge.com like me!
Getting our light right is essential to restore health and ensure longevity. This weeks guest Daniel Ebbett has been studying light for 19 years and effortlessly distills his wealth of knowledge, insight and experience with manmade light. This episode will forever serve as a handy resource for my clients – if that is you one day, don’t be surprised if I have it as homework in an upcoming nutrition plan.
How to get Started on Swapping out your Unhealthy Lighting
I am a little late to the game on Block Blue Light (BBL). I did not learn about the company’s innovative lighting technology until Daniel did a live presentation for us students of the Institute of Applied Quantum Biology. I have Orange and Red LED bulbs/lamps/nightlights and a tri-light from other companies. But now that I have spoken personally to Daniel, there are some specific reasons why I will favour some of his lighting. Offline after the recording button was off, Daniel pulled out his Light Lux Illuminometer and was demonstrating more about flicker and its effects and the detail his lab has taken to make health conscious lighting.
Because I am the newbie, I will defer to my podcast cohost Andeea Rae who is a seasoned Block Blue Light customer. Read on to learn her favourite BBL products and why….

“Before I became an affiliate of Block Blue Light I was using Daniel’s products! His were the first I ordered. Below you will find the contents of my first order. I use these things every single day! I have not had to replace anything.
Light Bulb – Bio light – Full Spectrum Light
I use this bulb in my kitchen and dining room ceiling light, so I have control of the light.
Light Bulb – Twilight Red Light Bulb
This is a great bulb for next to the bed. Block ALL of the Blue and Green spectrum.
Light Bulb – Sweet Dreams Light Bulb
This bulb is good for the lamp that sits in the living room area. Blocks all of the blue and part of the green. This light won’t make you as sleepy as the Twilight Red and allows you to still have healthy light for those few hours before bed.
Book Light – Multi Mode Blue Blocking Book Light
I use this every evening. Comes in handy when camping and traveling as well.
Small Light – Beacon Light
This light was for fun and I am so happy I got it. Works great for traveling and we keep one in the camper as well.
Lamp – Multi-Mode Blue Blocking Sleep Lamp
This is a very handy lamp. It is light and does not take up a lot of room. It is great for the office. We also bring this camping because it is nice and durable.
Accent Light – Twilight Red Light LED Strip Lights
The reason I got these is for our future camper van build out. I have not used them yet and we are going camping this weekend and I might break them out and use them. They come in different lengths.
Night Light – Twilight Motion Red Night Light
This works great in the bathroom in the event you need to get up in the middle of the night, or when you are up before sunrise in the winter months.
I really love that with these things we transformed our modern lit home into a circadian friendly one. Our lives, bodies, sleep (and the camper even) are all better for it!. Maybe start with the BioLight 3 way light bulb or the Twilight red light bulb for the bedroom. This is a journey. When we are making these swaps, it won’t happen all at once. I am still swapping things in my home to make it healthier and I have been at this over 6 years now!” Andeea Rae
Huge Insight into Blue Blockers
Daniel really explained why clear blue blockers are not effectively blocking blue light and especially the nasty spike at 455nm. He also dropped the hint on why the research is not clear (pun intended) on blue blockers. You will have to listen to the episode to catch it. But I will share this Instagram post by previous guest Dr Valerie Giangrande (recall her as the Quantum Eye Doc) to give you another hint:
