This week’s Quantum Healthy podcast guest, Skeeter Scanlon is a long-time friend of my podcast partner Andeea. She has known him for 27 years. He was a friend in her in her darkest days of addiction.
From Addiction to Life Coach
Skeeter hosts a podcast on YouTube called Catch It – A New Perception. He leads sweat lodges in his local community, volunteers, hosts workshops, seminars and is a life coach. He is a wealth of knowledge. His perspective is nothing short of refreshing and he explains concepts simply. He is very aware, conscious, spiritual, a leader, and a mentor to Andeea. The perfect recipe for his unique podcast.
Catch It – A New Perception
This episode on Quantum Healthy will give you a glimpse of his brilliance. If you see the value please listen to Catch It – A New Perception and subscribe.. There is no doubt you’ll get great value from his short and sweet episodes every week! Note that his podcast is currently only available on You Tube but will be soon available on all podcast apps.. Once he brings it to Spotify it will be my version of 15-minute morning chapel – something I cherished for 6 years of boarding school to start my day this way.
“14 years ago, I had been in recovery from addiction for half my life.”
Skeeter had this insight recently. He overcame severe alcohol and drug addiction using a 12 Step program almost 30 years ago. Today he admits to “still continuing to do everything I can to get to know my higher self”. This has transformed into many public speaking opportunities including becoming a life coach, workshop host, seminar leader, podcaster, sweat lodge and vision quest facilitator in Minnesota, USA.
His Purpose, Philosophy and Approach
Skeeter’s purpose is to inspire others to think differently, fostering emotional and spiritual growth. He advocates for service, self-care, spiritual growth, and inclusivity, drawing on Native American traditions (particularly the Lakota-Dakota who he he has been personally influenced by), personal recovery, and insights from cultural and spiritual practices.
Learning to Walk with your Heart through Sweat Lodges
I was fascinated by Skeeter’s sweat lodge stories that he shared with us in this episode. He had literally just come from one before our podcast as you will note with his wet long hair. I had to pick his brain on this subject. He described a sweat lodge as a ritualistic purification and rebirth process rooted in intertribal traditions. It involves prayer, connection to the earth and ancestors, and a spiritual journey. It also involves symbolism including fire (masculine), water (feminine), and the unity they create. He explained that personal meaning varies among participants.
Terminology and Communication
Skeeter is passionate about the impact of words on self-perception and relationships. I am not sure if he is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) trained but he understands how language affects our subconscious reprogramming. He advocates for reducing negative self-talk and curse language for spiritual and emotional clarity. I could not agree more. Sr Emoto showed us that curse words negatively affect our body water. Why would you want to say “F*%#” all the time and expect your health to improve when the majority of you is water oonsiousness?
Community and Service
Not surprisingly for someone who is getting to know their highest self, Skeeter highlights the importance of volunteering and its transformational effects on the self and others.
On the Subject of Women
He has also done several interviews on Women. One in particular was on strength – not the physical but emotional resilience and how he reveres women who have this particular inner strength. He also mentioned the need for respectful treatment of women and we discussed this further.
Health and Recovery and Where Does Alcohol Fit it?
Skeeter has insights into addiction recovery worth hearing. He has used holistic health practices in his journey. He now views alcohol as a toxin. He shared offline that alcohol was not even legal for Native Americans until 1950s. Many do not have the enzyme to digest it and alcohol has had tremendous historical and cultural implications on our Indigenous population. I would add tragic. It is crazy to me how we can still advertise and market alcohol so lightly when it has such a path of destruction behind it and causes more relationship distress. Calling it a toxin is putting it lightly, I prefer to think of it as a poison. We all know it contributes to Fatty Liver Disease and aging but since studying Root Cause Protocol further from Morley Robbins interview, I have learned it chelates copper in the liver causing deficiency which affects so much more than you can imagine. If dose makes the poison, moderation is key otherwise its self sabotage in todays toxic world where we can’t afford another health insult like that.
Getting to Know Your Highest Self through Recovery, Sweat Lodges and Gratitude
Skeeter has inspired many to grow. He encourages living in harmony with nature, kindness and embracing spiritual practices. He promotes inclusivity, intertribal respect, and self-discovery. He inspires others by sharing personal experiences and wisdom from diverse traditions, notably the Lakota-Dakota tribe and Irish tribalism. He addressed these questions:
• What does strength mean internally and emotionally?
• What is the significance of self-care versus selfishness?
How he Ends Every Podcast
“Looking forward to next time. Live in harmony with and use the bounty of the land to bring kindness to the world. “– and a Lakota message that translates to something like: “See you in this lifetime or the next” or shortened to “Later – Again”.
Laura’s Modern-Day Grey Owl
Skeeter’s knowledge of the Lakota-Dakota tribe coupled with his Irish descent and the wisdom he brought forth on living in harmony with nature was eerily similar to one of my heroes – Grey Owl: It was surreal speaking with Skeeter. I kept telling myself “this is not Grey Owl – this is not Grey Owl”
Wikipedia Description of Grey Owl
Archibald Stansfeld Belaney (1888–1938), commonly known as Grey Owl, was an English–Canadian popular writer, public speaker and conservationist. Born an Englishman, in the latter years of his life he passed as half-Indian, claiming he was the son of a Scottish man and an Apache woman. With books, articles and public appearances promoting wilderness conservation, he achieved fame in the 1930s.

My Connections to Grey Owl
- I had his biography (it was destroyed by the old growth pine that recently fell on our cottage) and have watched the movie with Pierce Brosnan.
- Grey Owl’s companion Anahareo is from Mattawa and in her later years cleaned for my Grandparents. Her brother Eddy helped build our cottage.
- A street in her name and her wooden statue is in Mattawa where my mom grew up and where my beloved cottage is.
- My Dad and my brother Chris canoed through an unexpected rainstorm to Grey Owl and Anahareo’s home in Prince Albert National Park, 1933 in Saskatchewan that they shared with the beavers. They visited their gravesites there and made a small movie of that experience shared with our family. S
Synchronicity – earlier this evening, I witnessed this beaver gnawing on something before I set off on my sunset swim.
“Behind Every Great Man is a Great Woman”
Speaking of Heroes…Anahareo was a woman of both inner and outer strength that Skeeter would have no doubt admired for these qualities. Just read this description of Anahareo:
Anahareo (1906-1986) real name was Gertrude Bernard, commonly known as Anahareo, was a Canadian writer, animal rights activist and conservationist of Algonquin and Mohawk ancestry. Throughout her life, she challenged cultural stereotypes of First Nations women and proved herself to be “an intrepid, resourceful, and self-reliant woman who could manage on her own in the wilderness and yet was no stranger to the customs and trappings of modern civilization” (Wikipedia).
I recently spoke to the curator of the Mattawa Museum, Judy Toupin who educated me that Anahareo taught Grey Owl much of her Algonquin-Mohawk culture. Anahareo was awarded the Order of Canada. She is the reason 1 legged traps are banned. Why don’t we all know this history?
What do Skeeter, Grey Owl and Anahareo have in Common?
In my perspective, these three share a love of nature, Indigenous culture/traditions, the courage to attempt to change history with their knowing and gift at communication. While not having the opportunity to personally know Grey Owl or Anahareo, after meeting Skeeter – a gem of a human, I cannot wait to study him more on my own journey to walk with my heart, know my highest self and be more in communion with nature.

What’s New at Laura Kissmann Wellness?
We hit Week 28 of Quantum Radiance Collective (QRC). Its become my passion project and my greatest joys which I did not foresee. The QRC is a ladies-only private membership that provides the blueprint for health optimization. Its a community to help accountability so you can overcome self-sabotage in making yourself healthier. I could not be more proud of these women for the transformative journeys they have taken since it launched February 2025.
You can join us anytime for 22$/month – see the details here. I ask that new participants commit to 6 months. If you want to do that privately with me, its $1700. I am purposely keeping the price low to make it more available. Hint: if you are considering, join us this fall to get grandfathered with this first year low pricing.
I just lost a friend this week younger than me that I did not know was fighting cancer. If I can do anything, it is to ask you to not wait for a diagnosis. Be proactive and act preventatively to empower your self with this Quantum Health knowledge and healthy habit formation. The healthier your terrain is, the higher your redox and the more negative charged you will be and cancer wont come your way. The QRC teaches you how to do just that.
Note we have lots planned for the fall – Quantum Nutrition, Leptin Resetting and a Redox Raise with the help of the Root Cause Protocol. If this is all new – no worries, I distill it all in a visual format and you need no health background – just a desire for health optimization and coachability.
