There are some conversations that stay with you long after the microphones turn off.
This episode of Quantum Healthy with Daniel White and Jai Kapoor was one of them.
Together, Daniel and Jai are the co-founders of InRhythm and creators of the Better Sleep Bulb — a revolutionary lighting technology designed to help restore our relationship with one of the most overlooked forces shaping human biology: light.
But this episode is about far more than bulbs.
It’s about the profound disconnect between modern life and the natural rhythms our bodies evolved under.
It’s about what happens when two men who “suffered deeply at the hands of modern life” decide to dedicate their lives to helping humanity remember what it means to live in rhythm with the Earth again.
And honestly, it may completely change the way you think about health.
From Burnout & Autoimmunity to Circadian Healing
Both Daniel and Jai arrived at circadian biology through personal suffering.
Daniel describes himself as the “poster boy for tech addiction” as a teenager — anxious, depressed, sleep deprived, overweight, battling autoimmune symptoms, allergies, brain fog, and even suicidal ideation.
Jai’s path looked different externally: success in investment banking, AI, and tech. He helped scale billion-dollar companies like Wayve AI and Revolut and raised over $1.3 billion from investors including SoftBank, Microsoft, and NVIDIA.
But underneath the success, his body was breaking down.
An aggressive autoimmune psoriasis condition left him physically and emotionally exhausted. He spent years trying every possible healing approach — restrictive diets, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, supplements, eliminating gluten, dairy, and eggs — searching for answers.
Then he met Daniel.
And everything changed.
What they discovered together was something most of us have never been taught:
Your body is not only biochemical.
It is profoundly rhythmic.
Circadian Biology: The Missing Piece in Modern Health
One of the most powerful concepts explored in this episode is the idea of a zeitgeber — a German word meaning “time giver.”
Light is the body’s most important zeitgeber.
When light enters the eyes, specialized receptors communicate with the brain’s master clock — the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) — which then synchronizes the clocks in every cell of the body.
In other words:
Light tells your biology what time it is.
When to wake.
When to digest.
When to repair.
When to produce hormones.
When to sleep.
For most of human history, this timing system was orchestrated perfectly by nature itself.
Sunrise.
Sunset.
Firelight.
Darkness.
But modern lighting has dramatically altered the signals our biology receives.
We discussed a recent Glen Jeffrey quote from the Andrew Huberman podcast “This is a public health issue on a scale comparable to asbestos.” Daniel clarified why the problem is exponentially worse because modern lighting is ubiquitous, while asbestos is not.
That may sound dramatic — until you begin understanding what artificial light, blue light exposure at night, flicker, and circadian disruption are doing to sleep, metabolism, hormones, inflammation, mood, mitochondrial health, and nervous system regulation.
This episode dives deeply into the science — but also into the philosophy of coherence.
Because InRhythm isn’t just a company.
It’s a movement.
What Is InRhythm?
Daniel and Jai describe InRhythm as part education platform, part health movement, and part environmental redesign project.
Their mission is simple but radical:
To bring humanity back into rhythm with nature.
Not through endless supplements, hacks, or optimization culture.
But by restoring the environmental conditions the human organism evolved within.
As Jai beautifully explains in the episode, modern society has become physiologically incoherent — and that incoherence affects not only our health, but our relationships, communities, and collective wellbeing.
Their work asks a profound question:
What if health is less about “doing more” and more about removing the environmental stressors preventing the body from functioning properly?
The Better Sleep Bulb: Recreating Nature Indoors
One of the most exciting parts of the conversation is hearing the story behind the Better Sleep Bulb.
This is not just another “warm light” LED.
Daniel and Jai have studied sunlight, firelight, circadian biology, infrared wavelengths, flicker, melanopic lux, and the nervous system effects of artificial lighting to engineer something radically different.
The Better Sleep Bulb contains three distinct modes designed to mirror the natural progression of light throughout the day:
Day Mode
A clear, warm-white full-spectrum light designed to support focus and productivity without the harsh stress response triggered by conventional cool-white LEDs.
Evening Mode
A sunset-inspired amber light with dramatically reduced blue light exposure to help the body transition naturally toward rest.
Night Mode
A deep red firelight tone designed to support melatonin production and deep restorative sleep while still allowing visibility.
Unlike most LEDs, the bulb is also:
- Flicker-free
- Infrared enriched
- Low in melanopic lux
- Designed to reduce nervous system stress
- Engineered to mimic nature’s changing light rhythms
- Dirty Electricity-Free (confirmed by Laura’s testing)
As Daniel says in the episode:
“Nothing replaces sunlight.”
And they’re very clear about that.
The goal is not to replace nature.
The goal is to bring indoor environments closer to the biological intelligence of nature — especially for modern people who spend nearly 90% of life indoors.
The School Research Project That Helped Spark a Movement
Listeners may remember Daniel from Quantum Healthy Episode 17 with Jeff Gibson, where we discussed the Circadian Rhythm Disruption Challenge and the school research project Dainel led and published.
That project explored the effects of circadian-aligned interventions — including reducing blue light exposure at night with the addition of Viva Rays’ blue blockers— on sleep, mood, appetite, and wellbeing in students. CEO Roudy Nassif donated the blue blockers, just to show you the kind of love and light in this quantum biology community.
The outcomes were remarkable.
And perhaps most importantly, they demonstrated something powerful:
Small environmental changes can create profound biological effects.
Not through force.
But through alignment.
Why This Conversation Matters
This episode is about light.
But it’s also about remembering.
Remembering that humans are not separate from nature.
Remembering that the body knows how to heal when given the right conditions.
Remembering that coherence may be one of the deepest forms of medicine.
There’s a Daniel quote from the episode that we can’t stop thinking about:
“What’s better than the white pill your doctor gives you? The white pill you never had to take.”
For most of human history, nature itself was the medicine.
And perhaps the future of health is not about becoming more artificial —
but becoming more aligned.
